On April 17, Maersk issued an announcement warning that many Nordic ports, especially Antwerp and Bremen, have become increasingly congested and their operations are interrupted.

Maersk said this was caused by a variety of factors that affected the port, such as strike action, gradual introduction and phase-out plans for marine networks across the industry, low water levels, and lower labor supply before the Easter holiday.

The combination of these factors leads to an increase in yard density and an increase in the number of containers exceeding the port's operating capacity.

The situation is being done to the best of its ability and minimize delays, but this is expected to result in ship and barge ship schedule interruptions due to congestion in the terminal.

The Maersk team continues to contact the affected docks to ensure the parking window and the number of movements required to unload and load as much as possible.

Maersk advises customers that in order to improve this situation and help speed up the recovery of the terminal, it is strongly recommended to clear the goods from the terminal as soon as possible after unloading and deliver the export goods as late as possible.

According to eeSea, 41% of ships in Antwerp are waiting for berths, and 52 container ships are on their way to the Belgian port.In Bremen Harbour, 29% of the ships are waiting and 27 are arriving.

Recently, Dexun also said that the port congestion and delays in Nordic ports are still at a serious level. The gradual introduction of route networks, high volumes and ships arriving beyond the parking window have resulted in severe congestion and delays in waterside operations.

It is not expected that the situation will improve in the next 3-4 months until network stability and yard congestion ease.

Among them, the utilization rate of the yard in the port of Antwerp is as high as 91%, and the utilization rate of the refrigeration box is as high as 89%, resulting in delays in parking. The port has shortened the shipment window from 7 days to 5 days to deal with terminal congestion.

The overall backlog of work remains due to the March 31 strike. Here we remind that cargo owners and freight forwarders involved in shipping these port businesses should pay attention to the impact of port delays in the future!Forwarding Zhou Zhi~
