It is reported that the current problem that plagues the shortage of truck drivers in the United States is still aggravating. As a result of the seasonal hurricane over-activity and the high peak season demand, the problem of short supply of trucks in the Gulf region continued to deteriorate. As a result, the rate at which long-haul trucks are rented continues to soar. And for the southern part of the United States, an unexpectedly tough winter weather exacerbated the problem.

It is reported that shippers often can only solve the shortage of freight trucks at high prices. There have also been a large number of trucking truck drivers who temporarily canceled shipments and chose to transport other goods of higher cost. Such confusion also poses many problems.

The shortage of truck drivers means that, as a natural market trend, the salary of truck drivers will rise. This will result in lower supplier profits and additional costs to consumers. However, the situation is still deteriorating despite the increase in the treatment of truck drivers. At least so far, improving treatment has not solved the current problem.

The shortage of truck drivers in the United States has not happened only recently, but has been around for a long time. Over the past 10 years, the truck industry has been trying to fill enough vacancies to meet market demand.

According to Lysdal, head of the operating company, the U.S. electronic delineation (ELD) policy, which took effect in December 2017, exacerbates the bad situation.

"In most major ports and rail terminals, congestion and long waiting times are serious enough problems, and now, after the implementation of ELD, the profitability of truck drivers is limited," said Lysdal.

Because the problem of shortage of truck drivers is dominated by the Midwestern United States, the problem of the entire East Coast is also deteriorating. At the same time, Texas and Louisiana also face the same problem. It seems that the implementation of the ELD seems to be the culprit responsible for this phenomenon. According to the official said, there are some other factors, such as the sudden cold weather in the south.

In the northern states, people are trying to deal with delays caused by the winter harsh weather on the freight market and the closure of ports and railways. But this winter, the south suffered even more severe weather attacks, hurting more. Because people are not prepared for this, most of the state's transportation departments are unable to deal quickly with the problem of snow and severely damage the roads. As a result, more trucks have problems such as breakdown and congestion. These are mutually influential.

According to the official in charge, exporters and importers should consider the possible delay in the import and export of goods and take into account the possibility of paying additional fees for drivers in such a crowded situation. At the same time, it is also suggested that shippers have the option of arranging the goods to a relatively modest port.
