As Bangladesh's fuel prices hit a record high on August 5, the inland container stacks of Jida Port have taken action, which will increase the service fee related to diesel by 42.5%to make up for the cost. Jida Port inland container stacks provide at least five services that need to use diesel.

The owner notified the shipping agent and freight agency, and they should improve the fees for airbox handling/transportation/transportation, air box crane fees, export cargo and container loading and unloading, export container verification total quality (VGM) and packaging fees.

Some stacking owners stated that with the proposed service fee, the yard expenses of an imported container will increase nearly $ 48/Teu and $ 55/Feu. On the other hand, the cost of packaging packaging will rise by $ 25/Teu and $ 33/Feu.

Nurul Qayyum Khan, chairman of the Bangladesh Domestic Container Stacking Association (BICDA), said that with the soaring fuel prices, there is no choice but to increase the charges.

"We will only increase the services related to the use of diesel," he said.

Khan pointed out that the pile owners have notified their customers this situation. Members of BICDA will sit together soon and meet with the Bangladesh National Shipping Agency Association (BSAA) to discuss this issue.

It is reported that BICDA's last raising of 23%of the service cost was when the government adjusted fuel prices in November 2021.

BSAA Chairman Syed Mohammad Arif said that according to the 2016 ICD policy, the Ministry of Shipping has a committee to supervise any form of charges in the shipping industry.

However, the Bangladesh National Taxation (NBR) formulated another ICD policy in 2021, which did not allow the committee to continue to pay attention to the issue of rising fees.

Arif said he has officially requested the vice chairman of BICDA not to increase the charges of total cost, but increase the charges that increase the actual cost increase.

The costume consignor of Bangladesh stated that the rising costs of the yard will also cause another major blow to their trade because the freight is also rising.

Bangladesh's clothing manufacturer and exporter association (BGMEA) agent Shahidullah Azim said that BICDA voluntarily increased the charges without discussing with the field users last time.

"I will soon discuss this issue with the BICDA leadership." He pointed out, and added that due to the increase in costs, the competitiveness of the Bangladesh's clothing industry will increase, and import and export costs will rise.
