Although the freight rates in the spot market continue to be in a downturn, it is worth noting that recently, many well-known shipping companies have decided to go against the trend and announced a new round of price increase plans to be implemented in April.This price increase covers multiple important routes, including South America, Mediterranean route and West Africa route, and the price increase is also considerable. According to the notice, the maximum freight rate for each large box will be raised to US$1,000.
MSC Mediterranean
Recently, Mediterranean Shipping (MSC) issued a notice raising the FAK rate for all routes from all Far East ports (cover but not limited to major ports in Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia) to the Mediterranean region (including ports in the Western Mediterranean, the Eastern Mediterranean, the Adriatic and North African ports) and the Black Sea ports.This rate adjustment plan will officially take effect on April 1, 2025.Specifically, the maximum shipping fee for a 20-foot cabinet will be increased by $400, while the maximum shipping fee for a 40-foot cabinet will be increased by $800.

Recently, CMA CGM officially issued an announcement that starting from April 1, 2025, a new FAK rate will be implemented for all cargo transportation originating from major Asian ports and destinations in the Mediterranean and North Africa.It is particularly noteworthy that the freight rate of 20-foot cabinets for ports from Asia to North Africa was raised to US$4,200, and the freight rate of 40-foot cabinets was raised to US$6,000.

Recently, Hapag-Lloyd issued an announcement that it will raise the GRI from Asia to the West Coast of South America, the East Coast of South America, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.This GRI adjustment will cover 20-foot and 40-foot dry boxes, including tall boxes and 40-foot non-operating refrigerators.Effective on April 1, 2025 and applies to all destinations listed in the announcement, but Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will apply from April 19, 2025.Until further notice.
